Prof Des Cox is the clinical lead of the respiratory department at CHI, Crumlin and was appointed a clinical professor with the School of Medicine, UCD in 2019. He was previously the chair of the RCPI policy group on tobacco. His main research interests include the development of lung disease in preschool children, in particular with asthma and Cystic Fibrosis. She is a consultant in maternal fetal medicine she has conducted extensive research into fetal growth restriction, aspirin pharmacology in pregnancy and preeclampsia. She set up the first Maternal Medicine service in Ireland which remains the largest of its kind nationally. Prof Regan is passionate about driving better safer care for patients and has successfully integrated policy development with her research interests. She is actively involved in education and research and has been awarded grants by the Health Research Board of Ireland and Science Foundation Ireland both as principal and Co-investigator. I hold a PhD in Public Health and MPH degree, HDip in Healthcare Risk Management, Professional Diploma in Entrepreneurial Education from UCD, and a BSc in Health Studies from QUB. In addition, I am a recipient of a College Teaching Excellence award, a Convene Innovation Fellowship and international funding awards, including a HRB Cochrane Fellowship with the Tobacco Addiction Group, Oxford. My research focuses on three specific issues: inclusion health, tobacco control and Patient and Public Involvement, adopting a human rights-based approach. Over the past decade, I engaged with several marginalised population groups using creative research methods, including design thinking and photovoice. In tobacco control, I have published many impactful Cochrane reviews and received international funding as Co-PI to establish a five-country network to reduce the impact of cigarette smoking in homes. Further funding awards include as a co-investigator of a national study examining smoking cessation for people who have a diagnosis of cancer.
